Did your aviation journey end where it started, or did it take a different path?

Can’t fully explain why I got emotional in this Can’t fully explain why I got emotional in this place. I suppose it’s because I’m deeply grateful for the way aviation has opened up my life.

Starting with work, I’m immensely blessed to get to out together so many of my talents into a creative and entrepreneurial endeavor at Angle of Attack.

Or maybe it’s the quiet and awe inspiring scenery, only seen from a small airplane.

Maybe it’s my heightened sense of self when I put together all my faculties and abilities into a successful flight.

But really it’s the people. Like @gkdave who I shared this experience with. He, like many others, make aviation deeply personal for me.

So thanks, Wright Brothers, for your incredible work and achievement.

And for you followers out there — tag an aviation “brother” or sister who makes aviation personal for you.

To make it better, the flying is consistent because of the new hangar. We’re comfortable and toasty in the plane, and we just completed a worthwhile mission.

What’s your favorite part of winter? Even if you’re in a warmer climate, there have got to be positives. Let’s hear them in the comments!

Hope you all have a wonderful day and weekend.
I’m thankful for a supportive wife. As a consu I’m thankful for a supportive wife.

As a consumer of Angle of Attack content, many see the nicely edited videos, the beautiful photos, the quality online ground school, podcast and more and think “wow, this guy really has his stuff together!”.

Truth is, the glue to this whole operation is my wife. We’re in a hard time of life right now with 2 little boys, 4 and 1 at the time of writing this. Life is crazy, messy, loud, and stinky.

It’s also the most wonderful and precious time of life, where the funny and fulfilling moments far outweigh the bad.

But it’s hard. These boys are young, and demand every moment of her attention. It’s also incredibly inconvenient and sometimes impossible for them to come along on all the adventures I do for AOA and film. That means she misses out on a lot of fun things.

There are just countless sacrifices being made at this time of life.

Chelsea keeps things running at home, while I provide for the family through Angle of Attack. She’s a major, major part of the team and none of this would be possible without her.

Just tonight I was kinda wiggin’ toward the end of the work day because I hadn’t made the progress I wanted all day and the hangar was trashed. I brought up the idea what we should do a family night at the hangar and she could help me organize some stuff.

She was totally game, and even made a picnic for all of us to have at the hangar. It relieved a lot of my stress and now I’m ready to tackle the day tomorrow.

Chelsea is my rock. And if you want to give her a big thanks in the comments, she’d love that.

I’m thankful for mentors. Many if not all of t I’m thankful for mentors.

Many if not all of the techniques and bits of wisdom I share are not mine alone. Like all pilots, I’ve gone through a seasoned path to achieving my certificates and licenses, with a handful of instructors, educators and mentors. From each of them I borrowed the best they had, tried to improve where I was inspired to, and eventually create my own unique brand of instructing as a result.

I am the sum total of the pieces I borrowed from them.

A few people worth a mention:

My commercial instructor Michael Philips. He was tough on me but revealed exactly what I needed to do to reach my full potential. He had a way of getting to the bottom of every barrier in my path, and we attacked it with Marine like precision and stamina.

Tres Clinton, my tailwheel instructor who taught me some fun stick and rudder skills in the Texas Hill Country. He always had the simplest way of saying things. And, flying with him made me want to own a Supercub.

John Dorcey, my CFI mentor and instructor whom I borrow many of techniques from. Such a fantastic, attentive and caring instructor. He’s an even better friend and person, along with his wife Rose.

Dave Herwig, a military veteran and all around awesome dude. He helped me with my CFII where he teaches at a small strip in Grays Creek, North Carolina. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

And John Chmiel, for helping me smell my first stall, and my first toilet paper dog fight in a Stearman. He’s an old soul, and the model aviator.
These are just individuals who I’ve worked with directly on my ratings.

I also want to honor some of the locals that have been part of my journey, and if nothing else, are simply a great support in the local community. Namely, Wes Head, Jimmy Christensen, Trent Flucky, Don Lee and Alex Clark. All local bush pilots, and have helped me in one way or another at some point.
