Common Questions
What does § 61.181 cover?
It scopes the flight instructor subpart, defining what the subpart governs and what it excludes.
“This subpart prescribes the requirements for the issuance of flight instructor certificates and ratings (except for flight instructor certificates with a sport pilot rating), the conditions under which those certificates and ratings are necessary, and the limitations on those certificates and ratings.” — 14 CFR § 61.181
Are sport pilot flight instructors covered by this subpart?
No. The section expressly excepts flight instructor certificates with a sport pilot rating from its scope, so those certificates are not governed by this subpart.
